Hello all,
So for the past few weeks I've been working on making my workshop and upgrading things. One upgrade I need to make is buying Solidworks 2009, since my student of 2007 version is going to expire in august, and I want to get a new computer to handle it. I have SW 2009 at my job and we use the Dell Precision with two quad cores 8 GB of ram and 64 bit, aka the best on the market at the time. I've never had a problem with SW at work and I would get the exact set up but they cost around $3500. Just a bit out of my budget at this time, so I want to get something decent around $1200 or so. I've been looking at the Dell XPS 625 which has been around for a while but is mostly used for gaming; the cost is around $1200 and has the AMD Phenomâ„¢ X4 9850+ Black Edition (2.5GHz/125W) and 4 GB of ram. Does anyone have any recommendations on a high performance desktop?

I would recommend you do not buy a prebuilt desktop. Build your own, it is much cheaper.

i second the building option. you can generally build your own pc for $200-$400 cheaper than the stores.
