Do you have an outline for what you want to build?
What experience do you have in robotics?

And also think about the usable materials and usable electronics you have, eg.plastic, servos, mcu's and other things like that.

And don't forget to plan before you by, the plan should include the fixings you are going to use, how you are going to put it together and your shopping list.

This may be a case where the old saying about "learn to walk before you run" is literally true! Lynxmotion has probably the simplest device - a pair of legs called Brat for $300. If that is too much, and you want to build from scratch you should probably start with a book on how to build a walker. I assume there is such a book.

after you get legs going at a walk, work on a new gait to allowing running and faster speeds
