Title: Some ideas on oscilloscopes?

Hello guys,
I want to buy a scope and I found a really really good, offer for a tektronix 465b.
It's used, but I know the user well, so it's quarantined it isn't broken or miss used...

Do you have tested and used some other scopes, are you satisfied or not?
Anyone with previous experience on the tektronix 465b?

Are you sure you need an oscilloscope and not a USB logic analyzer?
What are you going to use it for?

It's up to 100MHz.... It's old yes, but I'm getting it for a good price....
and I do need scope, not logic analyzer.... (noise, PWM, etc etc etc)

It's a military grade equipment.... and considered one of the best scopes as far as I see and hear....

It's analog, but with a 5ns time/div I really feel like it's nice :D
Truth is that analogs ones are better than digital with very fast paced phenomena,
cause they have better triggers

It's serviced well, and must be coming with a repair manual and a add on I'm not currently aware that it is for....


And part from being a Tektronix, the HM1008 - 2 I've seen which is analog/digital is like 1600Euros (with postage)
Which is a kinda big wow..... I don't have that money.... And I'm getting the 465b for something like 300Euros or less....

I dunno, but I still have to ask if it's a good offer... I can pursue a lower price, but I must know where I can rely on

I've noticed the USB oscopes/analyzers are starting to get good enough for what we need to measure, and are cheaper for what you get, too.

My complaint about the traditional scopes is that they are really large and heavy - annoying to take with you to competitions and uses up all your lab bench space. Porting data from an analog scope to a PC can only be done with a digital camera, and many digital scopes aren't friendly with PCs either.

If you are interested in a benchtop scope, Tektronix makes one of the best. We use their scopes in our electronics lab, and they have never been any problem.

If the price is good and you only need basic analog features then buy it.
The Tektronix 465b is a good analog scope of 1980's vintage. I've used this model scope more than any other scope in 20+ years of electronics.

The new small Tek's are great scopes (we have a bunch at work). If you need a digital scope and $1-2k is not too much I would recommend them.

I think I have to just wait and get the money for a analog/digital one.....

I have HM1008 - 2 in mind.... Although it's Hameg and not Tektronix I feel it will fit the case :D
It's about 2K with delivery and bank fees....
But... I can wait....
