Title: Testing robot using firewire
Post by: Builder1 on December 04, 2009, 03:30:45 AM
Hi All,
I don't have a desktop computer so I'm planning to use my laptop to test my robot's navigation program. My robot uses a Mini-ATX to process any commands coming from the laptop , but the problem is my laptop does not have a serial port. All it has are a firewire port and USB ports. Would a firewire port work for this purpose and what about the USB ports? Thank you in advance for your response.

USB would be usable LONG before Firewire.

There are serial to USB adapters that work very well and would be the easiest solution. I have used them for exactly the same purpose you have in mind.
