desoldering headers?
« on: May 03, 2010, 06:51:57 PM »
ok i have a bit of a problem. you see i got this arduino protoshield and have realized that there is a slight problem

this is what it looks like

now the problem is that there is no access to the pins except those black headers which for my intended project are completely useless. i need to desolder them and still have it look pretty as well as allow for me to solder wires in their place. is there any way to remove these?

de-soldering pump, soler wick.

And since you probably don't mind damaging those headers it shouldn't be too hard.

Yes, sacrifice the headers so you don't damage the board. Use a pair of diagonal cutters (wire cutters) to chop up the plastic on the header. Then it is easy to de-solder and remove each pin. Finish by clearing the holes as chelmi stated.
