Hi

To: Tsukubadaisei
Thank for your kind words.
I try my best, but it is still a long way to go.

Here is Aiko's new prototype Hand.

I have tested the new hand at Star Bucks picking up the coffee.
I didn't get the "chance" to video it, but I will the next time I am there.

Pro:
1) 5 movable fingers
2) Compact size. Same as human's hand
3) Will have complete sensors for feedback
4) Low Power consumption 5V
5) Can be use for Aiko.
6) 15 movable joints
7) Material Cost $1800

Can be use for Aiko or for human. Life-like mechanical limb that has the ability to feel physical sensation.
(Control by human muscle) special senors and controller will attach to the human's muscle. Another words, controlling the hand with our muscles.

Human Brain >> Nerve Impulse >> Muscle >> Aiko's Hand

This technology can be beneficial for people born with or who have undergone amputations.

Since, I can't find any volunteers, I guess I will test it on myself.

If you are using electromio sensors (the same bioelectric sensors used on EMGs) then I can help a little if you want. My studies are partially related to this subject (but from September I improve my knowledge a lot because my team is planning on developing an original exo-esqueleton for the university).
Anyway, if you need voluteers you can count on me (as long as you live in Kanto region).

That is some incredible stuff right there! :) I hope you can get it to implement on Aiko... you would need a servo motor for the wrist motion and stuff though. Would you be able to have "skin" over the hand as well?

Ai-bot,
Maybe it could even help physical therapists rehabilitate patients who lose control over their hands due to stroke or other paralysis causing incidents. Even for Parkinson's it could be useful since these people can't hold their movements steady.

I wish I knew half of the stuff you know about the "learning" mode... I am trying to write a "chat bot" now, that gets input from people and then chooses a response.
Amy: Spirit! Kif, that's the pony I always wanted but my parents said I had too many ponies already.

Kif: Yes, I programmed it in for you. Four million lines of BASIC!

Hi all...

The last week or so, I have re-designed Aiko's Hand version 2.
Here is the new spec for the new hand.

1) Weight only 95g which is 1/3 of the weight of the old hand.
2) 2.5x more power and more torque.
3) 35% smaller than the old hand.
4) The fingers are small enough that it can type on a keyboard.
5) The palm of the hand is cable of bending. If add additional servo.

The glove you see is woman wedding gloves small size (s).
I was shopping in Japan a few months ago, it was nice so I bought it.
I mold the new hand from that gloves.

I will do a demo with the new hands in a few days.. thinking of McDonald or Wendy.

Hi

Someone say my previous hand video was fake, because I did at home.

So, here is a quick video in a public mall. It was hard controlling with the muscle with the distraction from the people and the noise.
But I get use to it after awhile. ;D

Hi

I just finish new feature for the BRAINS software.
It can now recognize simple facial expression, such as "kiss" and "laughing"

Just need to test some more people.
I will do a video demo after all the tests are passed.

I think the BRAINS software is almost the way I want it to be.
Probably within 3 months, I will start to send out Black box of the Brains software Lite to people to sample.
The only person who have tried is Intel Corp, it would be nice to have other robot builder to try it.
(Sorry, no documentation, you are on your own.... ;D )

Hi,

Well, just updated what I have been doing lately.

1) Nano technology conference used a robot called "Atom"  with the BRAINS Lite software to interact with people.
It had some minor glitches on the first day, but we did a quick re-coding, and it worked much better later.

2) Add new features to the object 3-D recognition, hopefully it will do objects tracing better in the future.

3) Started to order some basic parts for Aiko's leg. Hopefully, Aiko will be able to walk by Christmas... it's a long shot.
Not sure it will work or not, but I won't know until I have tried.
It will be tricky to fit all the mechanical parts into a normal human legs size for Aiko.

4) Aiko have made her first US public appearance... (New York)
I had fun being at the anime convention, and meet a lot of people.

I've been reading your very extensive following on here AIbot I must say it's very impressive and to be a bit overwhelming to look at. I'm just getting into robotics and AI and was wondering if you have any recommendations on ways to learned more about robotics and AI before I start my computer classes.

I think people are a little freaked about you touching Aiko's breasts in public to show she doesn't like it, thank goodess she can't really smack you hard *laughs*

Do you plan on making her fingers more mobile? Just curious. Even if she's in a wheelchair, it would be interesting if even you could make her arms and fingers more mobile and she could wheel herself around until you can figure out how to get her standing and walking.

Hi

To: Antidaeophobia

I didn't go university for computer major, so I would not know what class to recommend you to take.
You better off reading a good Robotic book.

The last public appearance... 65% of the people touch her breasts.
70% are women and 30% are men.  People are curious and they want to touch it.
They won't admit it, but they do touch it when I am not looking.

The wheelchair doesn't belong to me, I borrow from someone.
It's a lot easier to wheel her in from the parking lot to the showroom.

I have installed the new hands into Aiko, however I am still using the old arm system which is very weak (max carry 200g)
The new arms system can carry 5Kg. Once, I have finished the new arms, I will sync the vision system with the new arms and new hands.
Aiko can do more cool things such as making simple breakfast and coffee etc...
The old arms were badly designed by me with the budget I had... can't really do much.

Right now Project Aiko is put on hold. I am currently, out of job and I have to spend 100% of my time looking for a new jobs.

Anyway, Aiko next public appearance is Ontario Science this coming weekend... Nov, 22,23, 2008.

To Mooret:,

Price: 25K, shipping $2500 including handling fee. Call right now and receive 5% discount. And if you call within the
next 10 minutes we will include another Aiko for only 10K, that's right you can own two Aiko for as little as 35K.
So pick up your phone and dial: 1-888-Buy-Aiko.

Fine print: Price are subject to change, tax does not include, and yes... this is a joke, Aiko is not for sale. :-*

Glad to here the you've got her doing more, unfortunate you don't have the money to keep going.
I'd check at some sort of second hand store or some sort of hospital surplus. They always have wheel chairs at second hand stores for really cheap. Apparently alot of people have old wheel chairs sitting in their basements they need to get rid of LOL  :)

Truth is, I'd probably touch her breasts, but I figure if you touch someones boobs that gives them the right to touch you back and I wouldn't want someone to touch my boobs....This is the 'Too much information' part of the comment isn't it. LOL

What books would you highly recommend? I'm going to probably get a Liberal Arts Degree in Pre-Computer Science then transfer if I decide to continue with it to a University. I figure that's a good enough start.

Hope thing get better with the money situation and you can do more work. I always look forward to video updates. :D

Hi

Nothing news with Aiko. I was planning to add Aiko's new arm system for Ontario Science appearance, but I didn't make it in time.
So Aiko is using her old arm system....

Thank Steve for inviting me to the CNRG at the Ontario Science Center.
I had a great time there. ;)

Thanks for being there at the CNRG. I had the pleasure to see Aiko closely, although I would have loved to see more detail about the arm system. It is a nice piece of art. I need to build a couple of arms somewhat like those. Any advice you would like to share? I was also amazed by the software you made, that I would never be able to do by myself. Too bad I didn't had time to talk in person with you, but I'm sure there will be some other ocasions. Keep up the extraordinary work you're doing!

Gabriel.

P.S. I am the guy with the hat in the background looking at her arms at the begining of the second minute of the video...

Holy monkies you made it onto slashdot! So wait . . . you married your robot?!

Quote
Inventor Builds Robot Wife

Inventor Le Trung must really like the book, "The Stepford Wives," because he has built the dream of every lonely man without hope, a robot wife. Le's wife, Aiko, starts the day by reading him the newspaper headlines and they go for a drives in the countryside. Le says his relationship with Aiko hasn't strayed into the bedroom, but a few tweaks could turn her into a sexual partner, even redesigning her to have a simulated orgasm. *Shudder*

They just make their own quotes...

But the last 3 days... was crazy for me.... from CNN, ABC,NBC, discovery Channel... even ESPN yeah the sport channel........ interview left and right...

The last 3 days was very busy on my end.
I have been doing about 34 interviews for the last 3 days. TV reporter, newspapers, radio....
I haven't sleep for 3 days... I have 13 tomorrow......  I really have no idea why suddenly everyone ringing the door bell.

If you can't access www.projectaiko.com to download the pictures...

It is because the site is getting too much hits. My ISP called saying I get
about 20 millions in 4 hours.  :o   .. so, if you can't download the pictures please let me know.

It's crazy....  I really have no idea.... why the sudden interested in Aiko.

Well, just adding new stuffs to the software... as of today, the intel core 2 has reached it limited with the BRAINS software.
99% cpu load.  :'( Hmmm.... maybe quad core.... might help...

Aiko next public appearance is Jan 17, 2009 at CNE

Quick video....
Trying to make Aiko speak vietnamese is pretty hard, consider I don't even know it.
