Hey! I've been reading around on this website for a while and just decided to join the forum.

I've been searching around and couldn't find a good way to teleoperate a robot. I'm going to be building robots with a few friends over the summer and we were thinking of building a few robots to get into friendly competition.

We're using Arduino and thinking of using http://www.robotshop.us/on-shine-low-cost-tx-rx.html to send data to the robot for teleoperation. However, I'm wondering if the 433mhz transmitter/reciever pair would be good for our purposes.

Would we also be able to set those to different channels or somehow use multiple at the same time from different controllers? If not, what is a good low cost way to transmit data to a robot without interfering with neighboring robots?

I've thought about using 75Mhz channeled transmitter/receivers from hitec, but those are a bit pricey if you want to purchase multiple. There's no good wifi shield for Arduino. What about bluetooth?

What do you mean by 'Teleoperated' by the way, when I hear that I think of something controlled by a phone dialling into it. I'm assuming that you mean either remote controlled or WLAN controlled though from the post.

Arduino WiFi Shield - Isn't not out yet but coming soon.

WiShild 1.0 - This one is out, this is from an Australian store, but I'm sure its around elsewhere too.

Hi,

It all depends...
Do you just wanna drive stick for 4 directions, or do you want to control lots of parameters with a PC perhaps?
What range do you hope for?
Why do you want to put a µController in them, when you want ROVers (Remote Operated Vehicles) which isn't really robots, wouldn't a bunch of R/C cars do just as well?

A rather fast and fairly heavy robot with quite large wheels needs what? A lot of power?

I'm looking for the flexibility of user control for testing and just playing around and autonomous control for more rigorous usage. I'm looking for something flexible where I could use joysticks, game controllers, or communicate with a PC.

I'm looking for decent range -- but it's mostly going to be within the same room.
