If you are wanting to just learn the basics of C++ I would recommend the book C++ Without Fear or the Introductory C++ book by Ivor Horton.

You'll find several C programming books here:

(I don't have any C++ recommendations)

I highly recommend     'The C Programming Language' by Kernighan and Ritchie.
These are the guys who invented the C language. This is the book I started with and will teach all the basics on using C and the only one I still refer to. Most of the other C books I've bought just take up space in the bookcase.

I also suggest to learn use plain 'C' correctly first. Kernighan and Ritchie's book is the best start.

I looked at quite a few books on learning C and this one stood out as the best one in my opinion, http://www.amazon.com/Practical-Programming-3rd-Steve-Oualline/dp/1565923065/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1255977908&sr=8-6.
