What would be a good way to do lane following instead of line following. All the robots that do line following seem to have some sort of sensor directly above the line to keep track of it. Does anyone have any ideas on how to make sure you stay between two lines (ie. Car on a road) without having anything directly above the lines?

I just came across the RoboRealm image processing software and it looks like it should be able to do everything I need. What would be more effective, a vision system or using light sensors & range finders?
