Simple Noob Questions
« on: February 02, 2010, 08:13:02 PM »
Hello I'm extremely interested in robots but i do not know alot of the basics meaning things like torque velocity you know physics also i have trouble with electricity and understanding how to use it with motors and such. I'm not to concerned with the programming part however because I'm in collage getting my programming major. So that's one thing i don't need help with.

Thanks alot i really appreciate the help

Well a great starting place is the SoR tutorials and articles (see top of this page).
We all started where you are at some point. If you need clarification of something you read in the SoR tutorials come back here and ask.

Ok well

"Another dumb mistake someone can make is buying a wheel that has a diameter close to or less than the motor diameter. For example, if you have a 1" diameter motor, and a 1.5" diameter wheel, you have a .25" ground clearance ( (1.5"-1")/2=.25" ). How high is the tallest object you want to go over?"

what is ground clearance?

what is ground clearance?
Its the distance between your robot base and the ground.
Lets say you have a ground clearance of 1 inch then you couldn't go over objects higher than 1 inch.
