Please help me on how to connect 50 $ robot to PC

For days I'm trying to connect my AVR to PC via COM port but i couldn't

Device missing or Unkown device (-24)

These r some suggestion which listed in web site :

A) programmer not powered up (check voltages)
I think it's powered up coz as i connect batteries the servo make a sound and vibration for less than 1 sec ( sth like 1 or 2 deg rotation)

B) you are telling it to use the wrong port (check device manager)
I have 2 com ports and I've tested for many times

C) you have another program running that is using the same port (close other programs)
i guess i don't have any special program (1 external 1000Gb HDD, )

plz some one help me what to do

by the way, do i need to connect sensors to be able to program the AVR or not ?
actually i've just connect : 1 servo  + batteries

Do you mean that you cannot program the chip? Or that you cannot send data back to the PC once your program is up and running on the chip?

Seems like it may be the first?

What programmer are you using? What chip have you used in the $50 robot?

Actually i can't read or write with PonyProg2000 to AVR !!!

i made the cable which connects RS232 to , but i used only wire to make this connection cable according to this picture =>



it seems i should make a circuit to connect these two heads ?

am i right ?
