AVR Studio, $50 robot
« on: February 22, 2010, 06:05:00 PM »
I can not seem to download the .hex file from the PonyProg to the microcontroller.  AVR Studio can connect to the microcontroller just fine.  Is there any reason why i should not write to the microcontroller with Studio instead of trying to work with PonyProg.

Once the microcontroller is programmed is there a way to tell that it is complete?  i have not fully assembled the robot so i'm not sure whether to continue or keep trying to write with PonyProg.

yeah you can program through AVR studio. When you click program in the flash section a blue bar will go along the bottom of the screen and when that bar has dissapeared the program has uploaded.

If you need any more help i will provide some screen prints.

I don't need the screen shots thank you.  I just did know if there was some advantage to using the PonyProg.  Flash is the correct way or EEPROM?  Or does it matter, i'm not at all familar with either.

nope there is no advantage to using pony prong. I prefer AVR studio for its usability and its simplicity. I am guessing that you have a USB programmer.

I think pony prong was made initially serial programmers. (but dont hold me to that :D)
