Roomba just turn off the Vacuum
« on: July 08, 2010, 01:16:05 PM »
I want to roomba go about its normal business of traveling around a room and re-charging itself when power gets low without
using its vacuum.  I have no electronics or java experience so I'm looking for some advice about what model to buy and how to send command to turn off vacuum.

While I'm planning on getting more in depth into the commands, I've been commissioned to get this thing up and running quickly. So, at first I just want the roomba to act like a roomba.  Is the best route to buy a cheap roomba; would it be to buy the Roomba Create; or is there another platform that would be easier to work with?

Thanks for any help.

the Create is based on an old roomba model that only relies on the bump sensors for obstacle detection, so if you choose to go that route, the actuall path planning etc is very primative.

Otherwise, for converting a vacuum roomba, you could take it apart and disconnect the vacuum motor wires.

aka snip snip.
The answer is always yes if it is never no.
