i found that this http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.44024

it looks like it might be a good alternative to using expensive netbooks for our projects. it would need some sort of linux though.

Netbooks are around $200 have a LOT better specs than that junk device, spending the extra 100 would be well worth it

Yeah, don't buy any serious electronics off DX, they're cheap for a reason.
MadSci, that looks pretty good, i had a laptop exactly the same as that a while ago, fantastic little things :)

ya i'm not really thinking of it's use as a laptop so much as it's use for something like a wifi controlled robot with a reasonably good display and near infinite input. put it with an axon or an arduino as sort of like the i/o card and i'd think you'd have a nice platform on the cheep. of course it's useless for most things but it's pretty cool none the less  as long as you can find development software for it.

i think this tablet might be better since it's pretty much the same price and actually has USB ports and runs android. it looks like it has better specs too

Too bad you can't actually download anything from the android market  :-\

Big dollar electronics on DX is a bad idea

There was a fix for it. your probably right though :P still to me it's pretty attractive to have the screen and wifi among other things.

Hi,

Did you ever consider buying proven brands second hand?

DealExtreme is OK for the cheap stuff and the things that you just cannot find anywhere else. Actually, even the cheap stuff is overpriced, considering it's a Chinese company - what do you think a Chinese person would (could) pay for similar stuff?

But we do come back anyway - as long as some stuff is under a tenth of what we would have to pay otherwise and the shipping is included (Last week I had spend hours on a Canadian web shop and first at part two of the payment, they revealed that I could choose between two shipment methods: The one costing $100 or the one costing $200 - They got to keep the goods (around $200 worth) and I got to waste some hours. Shipment included is also nice in that you don't have to build up a large order to spread the shipment cost (and that is an advantage to DX as well, as more people are ordering on that account alone).

Oh, I gotta get that remote for my DSLR and that miniature tri-wing screwdriver to open a NEC phone and that... Somebody stop me please I have a too long shopping list  ;D
Regards,
Søren

A rather fast and fairly heavy robot with quite large wheels needs what? A lot of power?
