compining geard dc motors with servos ic

i didn't know where it fit so i placed it here

 because i dont have a microcontoroler atm (am planning on getting an axon for Christmas)
i can't modify some servos i have to operate with remote control so am asking

if i take the ic board in my servo and put it in a geared dc motor will it work or will i have to consider the voltage required for the board and the motor to be the same? 

also what else should i be worried about?

You can buy pre-modified servos if youd like?
Or you can use the other modification method which replaces the pot with two 2.2k resistors?

yes. You also need to consider both the voltage and the current draw of the motor.

i cant buy anything online atm and they dont sell unmodified servos anywhere near me.
