eagle cad question
« on: October 17, 2010, 02:01:49 PM »
Hello:
I have created a pcb board on eagle cad and I just finished creating the gerber files.
I used the sparkfun cam file to do so.
Now, when I check the files using viewmate, all the files look good except for the drill file.
the drill holes seem to be misplaced. everything else looks fine. If I change the format of the NC drill file from excellon to gerber then the picture looks good. Can anybody tell me why is the excellon file not alligned with the rest???
I could change the excellon file to a gerberrs274x but I read somewhere that if I send this file instead the plated holes are not included ....is this true?
I am kind of new to eagle cad.. please help!!
thanks

Well, first off what service do you plan on using to fab your PCBs? BatchPCB?

If you are using the BatchPCB cam file, then everything should be right for what BatchPCB needs from you. My guess is it's related to viewmate. I can't help with that though, I never used viewmate.

Since 4pcb (Advanced Circuits) does the free DFM file check, i'd submit your design and wait for the email back with the pictures on how they interpret your files. If the drill still looks off, then it's the Cam job. If not, then it's your viewer.

I created my own 4pcb cam file at work. If you like, I can post it here from the office tomorrow. Let me know.

FYI, if this is for hobby, and you can afford to wait 2 weeks, there are cheaper services like seeedstudio that will do 10x PCBs less then 5x5cm for $23 shipped; less then 10x10cm for $43. They give you cam file and even a dru limits file to make sure your design is within the spec of their machines.
