Interface Solarbotics Wheel Encoders and Solarbotics GM8 Motors with an Arduino?

Has anyone interfaced Solarbotics Wheel Encoders and Solarbotics GM8 Motors with an Arduino?
Here is the doc for the wheel encoders:

I'm kinda of unsure how to setup the encoders in my code to measure distance traveled. If anyone
has any arduino code with comments it would greatly help me out.

You can look through my custom Arduino powered motor controller code here. I don't remember how well I commented it, but it does use encoders to record distance traveled.
