What Happened to project Aiko?
I was enjoying that very long topic! ;D
And Admin said "Let there be robots!"
And it was good.

Wow, I had to look for this link, it has been awhile, since I update anything about Aiko here.

This is a video demonstration, new face recognition using all 3 axis, x,y,z.
Another words, the system should recognize you even when your head is twisted.

Also, Aiko new voices for English and Japanese.

Aiko V2, hoping will be done in the spring of 2011. Aiko will have more facial expression, and the ability to cry/tear. Why did I add in that feature, don't know, just feel like it.  :)

Any features, you would like to add in Aiko, please let me know.

How about recognition of a twisted mind?   (Although that probably means anybody with even the slightest interest in 'botics ;D)

Hi all,

First video for the New Year. Finally, got the time to integrate The Brains new voice into Aiko.

Aiko in Oakley promotinal Video.
If you hear the static noise in the background, that is my $250 cheap video camcorder.
Happy New Year.

P.S, if everythings goes well, Aiko V2 will be done in April.
Including more facial expressions, and tear duct.

You have impressed me with your project, also you can try to sell the project.

I have a blog where I write about robots, if you want to make public your project please PM.
You can read my articles about robots on www.intorobotics.com

I just read every post on this thread for the first time.  Trung has done some fine work integrating many complex systems together all by himself.

I must say that he re-invented the wheel and could have saved himself a lot of time.  OpenCV has many features builtin and easy to use for face and object recognition.  This alone could have saved him a lot of time and he likely would also have gotten better performance as these are often optimized libraries.  Microsofts Speech API is also pretty decent at speech recognition, but i can't say whether yours is better or not.

i think things like walking and having the robot pick up items will be hard.  Again here you could leverage work done by others such as Willow Garage with ROS.  Much of the kinematics are already worked out for you for something like grasping and object...you just describe your robot to ROS via XML files.

I hope you have found employment or that you are just doing fine with your website.  Right off the bat I thought you should look into working at Hanson Robotics.  They have great skills at making meka, and your software skills could be of use to them.  I also think the Nao robot project might be of interest to you given that it is humanoid and they are trying to find talented programmers.

There are other options for you to commercialize the work you have done.  Really good and fast face recognition is highly desired by government agencies for obvious reasons.

Anyway..please keep us posted on your progress!

best,
Kevin

Hi.

It's had been awhile since I posted here.
Been busy with school and all.
But still working slowly with Aiko V2.
The BRAINS software now runs 64 bits reducing cpu power from 95% to 40%.

Here is Aiko V2 new skull and camera.
I will add the tear ducts later on. (want to make her cry)
Yes, the eyes can now move and blank including more facial movement.
Also will add more sensors under the silicone for touch sensitivity such as being pinch and being poke at..etc.

Hello everyone.
Merry Christmas and Happy New year.

Aiko V2 New faces finally reveal. The face is made of silicone as in Aiko V1.
Aiko V2 face has more facial movements, including closing the eyes, smile..etc..
Also dual cameras in the eyes. Including tear ducts and more sensors under the skin.

Any ideas to improvement on Aiko v2 or questions, please email to me.
I will try to upload the video when everything is done.

One thing that would truly test her level of AI would be a constant connection to Twitter.

I won't even gander about how to do that, but if you really want to push and grow your AI, then constant communication on Twitter would do that.

Even while you're sleeping, she could be interacting with people around the world.

I think it's a great opportunity for her to learn. Twitter API

Also, how is her ability to answer questions like, "What's the largest city in the world?"

You should take a look at iPhone's "Siri." Or look at this article. It talks about the many Android (phone)-based apps which are attempting to replicate Siri.

The ability to ask a question and find the correct (or best/most-popular) answer is an important part of being human.

Hi,

The new version of the head/face sure is a big improvement over the very artificial looking first iteration.
"Her" response though... You might wanna check with a flesh&blood model, as the response seems way off and a real human would alter their intonation as well when upset.
But all in all - a huge visual improvement :)

Søren

Have the face constantly make small random movements to make it more life like. No human face is ever motionless, especially the eyes.

Or even have the eyes always following the face of other people in the room. It gives the creepy impression that it's sentient and aware of what other people are doing.

I watched a bit of it with no sound. I noticed the eyes were occasionally winking... is this an issue with not having the actuators be fast enough for realistic blinking, so instead it looks like winking? (It reminded me of a tic affecting the eye, even)  I'm pretty sure English isn't your first language, so if I confused you there... don't worry about about! :)
