This one needs no microcontroller.
Regards,
Søren

A rather fast and fairly heavy robot with quite large wheels needs what? A lot of power?
Please remember...

A basic line following robot could start with:

     1.  Photoresistors to follow a line( eyes to see the line); and
     2.  Voltage comparator (brain to decide going left or right).

Obviously you will require a few more components.  It was my first robot (robot sandwich).  This would be a good start then eventually you will go with microcontroller to get your robot do more.

you can make a simplest line following robot with a transistor ,resistor ,1 ir sensor and 2 motor

I just looked for a few minutes and didn't find any free plans online but the robot here:  http://www.robotroom.com/Sandwich.html has instructions in this book http://www.robotroom.com/RBFB.html - maybe you can find it at a local library.  It is a comparator based robot - no micro-controller.

UPDATE: I found a simple schematic here: http://www.circuitschematic.net/2012/02/comparator-circuits-line-following.html

UPDATE AGAIN: Actually just ignore all this stuff and just read Soeren's link above.  It has full instructions on building basically the same type of robot.

It's more like "line avoider" rather than "line follower"; however simplicity of it impresses me  ;D
