Cheap Sensors

I was just going to recommend using optical mice as proximity sensors. They're really really cheap if you look on ebay( like $20 for 10). They work just like laser sensors . Just an LED and a CCD circuit...

Anyone done this kind of thing yet?

This isn't exactly what you're asking for....
but it is someone making a mouse into a robot using some of the parts in one, so it may be of use to you.

I dont think thats quite was he was saying. On the mouse-bot, the guy put in some xmitters rather than using the mouses(which I think was a ball mouse?) own laser circuitry

Still a nifty idea though... haha... "nifty"

Or you could just spend $1 for two resistors and an IR emitter/detector pair . . . :P
