Linear Actuators?
« on: August 24, 2007, 08:39:11 PM »
Anyone knows a place that sells 12V electric linear actuators for non-insane prices? I would like something not too large (8" or less in length) for the arms of my robot.

I don't know. They are out of my "jurisdiction". But as far as I know I think you are suppose to build them. they are nothing but a normal motor+gear/wormgear+rail. Maybe if you search only for the "rail"(I don't know the real name) then you might find cheaper alternatives.

I once needed a 12v push solenoid, to build my own remote operated lock, but it cost about GB?14 which i thought was very expensive and the rod only "pushed" out of the housing about 50mm. Until the price comes down and they offer a greater degree of motion i wouldnt recommend them...

door lock actuators by allelectronics.com for 6 bucks. But very little push/pull
Check out the Roboduino, Arduino-compatible board!

you could also make your own using thread all or a long machine screw and nut.  kinda like a garage door opener.
