AREF AVR Help!

Hi,
My JTAG says that my AREF is 0 Volts. How is that possible when I measured the pin at 4.5Volts ? I have AVCC = AREF connected to each other.
Any ideas?

The pin you measured is right off the chip, or somewhere on your board?
Does your ADC work otherwise?

The ADC is working. .. i think it's because the JTAG is looking to have that variable work for an STK500 ... at least that is what I heard on avrfreaks.
