Design Question
« on: April 18, 2008, 11:09:30 PM »
Hi,
I am working on a project that i am trying to involve some smart robot automation in robot movement. no for the pics to start descriibing.

in this example i have 5 robots that are all moving in a oval. that part seems kinda simple right.... well no...... now the more complacated part where robot 1 is is a stopping point. so the robot will stop there and when robot 5 get behind robot 1 it needs to stop behind robot 1 with out hitting robot one and so on till all 5 robots are stacked up behind the robot before. thats kinda part 1

part 2 is where robot 1 is stopped i would like a button on my radio to release it to get it to countinue in the oval and when robot 1 is released i would like robot 5 to move up to the stopping point. and so on and so on with the other robots behind 1 and 5.

the challenges i see:
getting them to travel in the oval: i have done some research on some robot marketplaces and i have found the line tracker and i thought this might work but the project is going to be on dirt and there would kinda be no way to paint/draw a white on dirt and get it to sta for any lenght of time. i thought about maybe some sort of radio wave beacons that would be flags (so to say) that the robot would have to go around so when the flag is in front of the robot it would go strait and then when the flag got to the side it would start to turn...... (i dont know even if that is a possiablity just me thinkging) and the other option that i thougt of would be some kinda to servo recorder so i would drive the robot around the oval the first time and it would record te movement and then replay it but i dont think i can get the other functions. (ie the stop and start)

Stop/Start: this i dont even know where to start to think about how to get it to do this.  ???  ???

food for thought/can it be done: is it possiable to get a radio to interact with a computer? and to get a computer to send out radio signals to a robot? another thought i had was to create a program that keeps track of the 5 robots and is able to tel them when to start stop turn amybe do other functions  and so on. a example of this would be the way the railway system works here in the US.......

Thanks in Advance
Mike

Hi:

I really not sure what you are trying to do but here are some ideas:

Use wire to make your oval track; this way if dirt gets on it, it doesn't matter. Put a singal on the wire and have the  robots follow that.

The  "some kinda to servo recorder so i would drive the robot around the oval the first time and it would record te movement and then replay it"   wouldn't work because only after 1 or 2 times around the track the robots would be off route.

You can use  IR  or very weak RF beacons for your robots stop points
