I'm Entering Chives
« on: June 03, 2008, 04:31:13 AM »
I will enter Chives, my butler robot  in this contest
http://www.instructables.com/contest/robotcontest/

I redid Chives a bit since the last video , so I plan to post an update photo sometime today or tomorrow
any specific details you guys are looking for in the tutorial or maybe some new features I should add to chives or maybe even a new design

If its a design change ( please be realistic though) post a pic of what Chives should "kind of look like"

I like the design which another guy did but that robot cannot do anything , its just remote controlled.

Any design recommendations???

Features:
Voice Control commands for the following:  movement , tell the time , tell the temperature , tell the weather conditions , tell him to paly certain sounds (  load gun sound , shoot gun , missile launch sound, siren sound, star wars theme , rocky theme , and rock and roll theme)

Joystick for manual drive

Follow a certain color object

Pour a drink

Control robot remotely over internet

Text to speech features for remote controlling

I plan to fully interface: sonar , stereoscopic vision , better robot arms that grip a bottle AND a cup and don't spill

Any other features that I should install ?

I'm thinking of having a similar body but putting on a different head  , like maybe an R2D2 head or something robot like that.

,Eric

Just out of curiosity, do you pronounce his name like the spice or like the traditional butler name "Jeeves"?

i thinkg it should always get back to its home position after the job is done,, so you have to do mapping i guess and memorize home position

i can try but i highly doubt I will be able to add mapping AND make a good how-to tutorial in the 12 free days I have after exams till the contest deadline.

think guys , what would you want your butler to do?

airman, the problem with this is that butler robots should be very advanced so they can do real useful stuff, like dish washing,,floor cleaning
serving food,,etc

to be honest with ya i dont think there would be any IMPRESSIVE property to add to your rorbot in 12 days,,,

mmm maybe pouring beer in a cup without and with foam,,that would be cool

if you want foam then just pour it normally with the cup being vertical to the floor

if you dont want any foam(like me ;D) then you have to pour the beer with the glass inclined , let the beer directly hit the inner wall of the glass then it will go to the buttom of the glass,,,

it does pour drinks already , just it spills sometimes , lol

the idea that one robot should do all the tasks is a bad one - instead have like 20 robots , each doing their own specific job.
