Flash drive reader?

I'm not sure if this is feasible... but how would you build a flash drive reader?  How could I get the filenames of the files on the flashdrive into my microcontroller code to process?

Here's a device that allows you to read/write files on a USB memory stick from your microcontroller  http://www.vinculum.com/documents/datasheets/DS_VDIP1.pdf
