Idea: Add multi-user keyword adding

Here's a cool idea I just had for the forum. Add all users to add keywords to a post. Generally users will only do this on the more useful threads/posts. This way when searching the catalog of SoR forum posts for information on a question you have you can search by keyword category.

...or this is just a stupid idea I randomly came up with. Either way, enjoy the thought.

EXACTLY what went through my mind when I read this.

The forum search basically already does that but instead of looking for tags that users have tacked onto posts/threads, it just searches any and all posts for the keywords that you typed in to search for. So technically your idea is already in place and on roids

I think that's what they do on youtube.  But they also use the words in the descriptions, comments, and the title.  Hmmm...

If you must do this, make sure it's an option for us to turn off tags, too.

Tags from the unwashed masses REALLY annoy me.

Tags work best for things like video where there isn't any searchable text.

In theory, the subject line should be written to be easily searchable, yet still informative for someone browsing the forum.

Make sure the text body includes keywords you think are useful in your question, too.

Occasionally I tweak the search settings to give higher weights to certain parts of a thread (date, subject, text, keywords, etc).
