« on: December 23, 2008, 06:29:38 PM »
To everybody that read everything else i am now building the bot and have the basics done

The tape on the bot is to hold everything until i attach them with brackets and epoxy. The frame is plastic sheet with reinforcements. I was wondering how to attach tracks to the bot also i want to know where to get them from. The size is 12"x7"

Robot tracks are not easy to find, and when you do, they are often not cheap. The only set of treads that I have been able to locate at a reasonable price are from Solarbotics (http://www.solarbotics.com/motors_accessories/treads/)

To mount those treads you simple attach the cogs (drive wheels) to your motors (I recommend you use Solarbotics GMx series motors as they are directly compatible with the wheels) using a screw, and then attach the idlers (free moving wheels) to a separate part of your chassis or drive frame. Then attach the tread on the cogs and idlers, adjusting as needed.

I hope this helped.

Other tracks are available here http://www.robotshop.ca/home/products/robot-parts/mechanics/robot-wheel-track/lynxmotion-track-trk-01.html

However they are much much more expensive. Here's a video of them being used: http://www.robotshop.ca/video/lynxmotion-tank-tracks-01.mpg
Here are the instructions for their installation: http://www.lynxmotion.com/images/html/build103.htm

GREAT TREADS!

I found a tread kit at SuperDroid Robots that is cheap, adjustable, and comes with everything you need. All under $10!!

Yea, the treads that Thomas suggested work great and are sold at just about any robotics site. My only cons is that they are made of weak material. They stretch out a little when under stress.

i was gonna say remote control tank time, but those treads look alright for $8.30. if you have the money available you should probibly get the better quality ones. but its really up to you.

check out a local hobby shop and look for Tamiya stuff, they have a tracked vehicle set and a dual motor gearbox that would work as a good track robot set up.
