Computer's internet shuts off after 12 hours of being on.?

Ok, I turn on my computer every morning at 6:00am and when I get home, and it comes to 6:00pm, the internet shuts off, and the only way to fix it is to restart my computer. Is the network card not getting adequate cooling/ventilation, so it shuts off when overheating? Is there some kind of network configuration doing this? Keep in mind, of all the computers in the network this is the only one.

The computer is a Windows Vista Dell XPS 720 @ 2.40GHz with 2GB RAM and 32 bit OS

Most probably there is a driver error or something. If it's a laptop just restart the network card. I had a similar problem with mine, but after a format it wen't away, probably because this time I downloaded the correct drivers. I could also be caused by a virus or something.

How do I format it? It is a Dell XPS 720, (Desktop)

Well to format you'll need de OS CD and backup your files. But in this case I don't think that'd be the solution to your problem. I'd recommend checking your drivers, virus scan. I'm not expert though, so I'd wait for more replies.

Dell may have a firmware upgrade for you as well

If you go into the networks connections thing does it say the device is disconnected?

as of now (not 12 hours after the turn on) it says its connected

I dont think a virus is capable of this

And I will have a look at Dell's firmware upgrades, as well as their technical support.

I know that where I live the cable company has a very short TTL set on DHCP.  This seems to cause some issues with their modems that require a reset before they will correctly pull another IP address.  I've heard a lot of complaints that Internet access can drop like clockwork.  Others complain that the problem is random.

Just something you may want to ask your ISP before you pull your hair out rebuilding your box.

It certainly sounds like IP address aquisition / dropping problem.

Not to do with your system. (unless you have a virus affecting your tcp/ip stack)

Well, when it does go down, I do do the ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew

I am pretty computer savvy but I cannot figure this out at all!!
