problem with 5v regulator

Hi,
it looks like my 5v regulator from $50 robots doesn't work.
I have connected my battery to it, and I have uncontrolled voltage to my servos (which is fine) and zero volt to my circuit.
How can I check if it's working correctly?

do you have it connected the right way around? and are you using a common gnd?

I had the same problem

Check your connections to the regulator, if it's getting unusually hot you've got it wrong.

make sure you're plugging in the battetries the right way

I'm pretty much sure that I have connected it the right way, but will double check today.
Also, I'm using common ground.
Regulator isn't hot at all.
And I have connected the battery correctly, I double checked that.

Will give it a try tonight, and if unsuccessful will post a photo.

use a multimeter on the legs of the regulator

I had a problem of the regulator getting very hot. I checked all my connections, I mean ALL of them, every wire, capacitor and everything and I finally got it working, but never used it, didn't have all the features I wanted.

also, if the problem persists, do some continuity tests to make sure all of the soldering is good.

false alarm. 
double checked right now - all is working fine.
except that my diode stopped working. but that is easier to fix.
