Hello friends, i'm trying to make an autonomous car using pc's parallel port and ir range detector...what i want is that IR reciever should give +5v to input of parallel port as soon as a object comes near to it... i search the internet alot but did't help me out, most of the range finder circuits are dealing with analouge signal ... any help and suggestion would be appreciated
Thanks and Regards

Some of the Sharp IR detectors provide a digital output rather than an analogue output. You would need to check their product range as the distance at which a transition from 0 -> 1 happens varies by model.
Alternative, as Superchiku says, use an analogue model and flick a digital output pin yourself.
