sherline minimill purcheasing
« on: April 27, 2009, 04:29:01 PM »
Hello,
My robotic projects have been stopped lately due to the lack of a minimill.  I just found one http://cgi.ebay.com/DENFORD-Micro-Mill-Mini-milling-machine-Micromill-CNC_W0QQitemZ360149264075QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item360149264075&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50 on E-bay, it doesn't list the controller type and it doesn't come with software.  Has any one had any success with minimills and have any recommendations on software?  What do you guys think?  Good price?  For this price do you think something might be wrong with it?

Thanks

I've been looking at some other forums on this Denford mills and this is an educational mill.  ...Great :P, stupid students could have tour it up...  It looks like the main problem is finding software.  If the software could take DXF that would be fine for me.  I could generate my parts in Solidworks, make a DXF and mill.  I really want to get the robotic building back in action.

$899 seems like a fair price for a used Sherline micro-mill with CNC.  The freight charge hurts.
Compare to about $500 (on sale) for a new Harbor Freight mini-mill - non-CNC.  Better capacity than the Sherline, but lower quality and no CNC.
If you're a tweaker, though, you could make it into a nice CNC mini-mill for about the same price ($1200).

Thanks guys, I live close by so i would have to pay that shipping fee :D.  I don't really like the idea of paying all that for a machine that some students played with, if you know what i mean >:(.  I would like to purchase a new one if the cost fits my budget < $1400.  The one on harbor freight looks a little difficult to convert to cnc though.

Will this fit with the one from harbor freight?
