Looking for a Wireless Camera
« on: August 26, 2009, 02:55:03 PM »
So far the best wireless cameras I can find are all 2.4ghz and are priced around 100 to 200 dollars, such as X10 cameras. Better priced (but on an illegal for US bandwith, not that I care that much) cameras can be found on focalprice for around 30 dollars:

I'm looking for a camera with a much further range - something I can send to a couple of hundred feet and still get a signal back. What should I be looking for? Does anyone have an idea where to find a camera like this without breaking the bank? I need to be able to take the video signal and port it into my computer for processing. This doesn't mean it needs to be a webcam or be computer-ready - if the video comes in via S-video or composite then I can just get a USB adapter for those easily.

would a web cam hooked up to a circuit board then fed back to the mother board via a tranceiver be oki for your purposes as there is not a large amount of options for $30

1) I did not specify a 30 dollar budget
2) That isn't wireless at all.

I've looked at wireless USB options, seeing if I can perhaps create a wireless connection to a USB port at a distance and just use that for data communication. Unfortunately this also has a great limit on broadcast distance.

http://www.surveyor.com/blackfin/

I could not find any reviews on the performance. If you can't find the info you want post a question because i know some people on the forum have Blackfins.

Check swann, they had a really good deal on a wireless camera that had a range of around 150 feet, for like 100 dollars US not too long ago, also look into the video cameras they use in RC airplanes

I was literally just looking at that website but didn't see that product yet. The on-screen features are amazing. But my purposes are non aerial. Thanks for the link, it got added to my shopping compendium for future reference.

There are not aerial video systems and ground systems, they can be used for both.

I understand that, I was referring to the extras with horizon detection and orientation heads up displays.

So far the cheapest video system I can find is still focalprice.com. Yay chinese knockoffs.
