RoboRealm Access to Comm Port?
« on: October 01, 2009, 12:24:33 PM »
Hi guys, I have a question regarding Roborealm. So I want to use RoboRealm for vision processing in my robot.

But the robot has to be autonomous so I will have a wireless camera mounted on the robot and a pair of wireless RF tranceivers, one on the robot and one on the PC called XBEE's. They're kinda like wireless jumpers. Now how can I send serial 8 bit to the robot using the Wireless modules using Roborealm? Does roborealm have a plug in that talks to the Serial Comm Ports cause when an XBEE is connected to a PC, then it appears as a Comm Port?

Roborealm does have the plugin.
What you will need to do is get one of these: http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=8687

That makes the Xbee come up as a virtual serial port on your computer. Its then as simple as configuring the plugin and sending serial data.

Btw, if you are using the Xbee Pro let me know , since there is a modification you'll have to do to those boards.
Check out the Roboduino, Arduino-compatible board!
