snooper the robot

here's my robot "Snooper". it uses 2 hacked micro servos for propulsion and runs off of an arduino. the power comes from 3 lithium ion batteries which i need to find a charger for. the camera is a cheep color camera from dx and the wireless transmitter is also from dx. i removed it's casing and hard soldered everything since the connections sucked. as you can see the arduino is just sitting on top for show right now and i'm working on a non permanent mount for it. the wireless has a range of at least 40 ft!

Nice job.

How heavy is it and do the servos have any trouble with the weight. As they are small. The reason i ask this is because i have 3 laying around but i have never used them for propultion before. And if you didn't have any trouble i might try them.

thanks :D. the thing weighs less then a kg and the motors take the weight very well. they need allot of work for full rotation and there's no way arround using resistors unless you have an external pot since the pot is integral to the mechanics of it. you have to hack up the pot for full rotation as well which usually means massacring it but i havn't screwed one up yet. i'd say you could easily use them for the $50 robot for instance but i don't think i'd use one with anything that has a metal frame.

I was thinking along the lines of the $50 bot just for a platform to test my sensors and code so i don't have to keep getting out and starting up my ither robot. Which at the moment is not completed yet.

hey anyone know any hexapod examples? i'm thinking of ditching the CD wheels and trying out legs. i've got 3 more of these servos (love them dx bulk rates :P) but only these 2 are full rotation now.

No sorry can not help there. i'll have a look when i get a chance.

I used to have one that i built from a kit but no longer have it. all i remember is there were two motors, one for each side of the robot.(i had this kit when i was about 10 so i don't remember a whole lot from it.
